Copper Tongue Cleaner

Tongue cleaning is an ancient practice that traces its roots back to Indian Ayurvedic literature. Recommended by Ayurveda, and now supported by medical sciences, scraping the tongue first thing every morning is the most effective way to remove the bacteria that collects on top of the tongue each night. The curved, blunt edge of the tongue scraper is specially designed for this purpose and removes twice as much bio burden than a toothbrush. Regular tongue scraping is the best way to prevent bad breath, halitosis and get rid of toxins before they can get absorbed into the system. Tongue scraping can enhance digestion and the sense of taste. By massaging the tongue, one stimulates and awakens their digestive system while eliminating toxins from the system.

Why copper?
Ayurvedic literature recommends tongue scrapers being made from copper, silver, gold, tin or brass due to their antimicrobial properties. Copper has been used for its health benefits in many ancient cultures. Egyptian and Babylonian soldiers were known to apply bronze (an alloy of copper and tin) fillings on their wounds after a battle to reduce infection and speed healing. Copper was also used in ancient China to cure certain medical problems. The Greeks and Aztecs used copper oxide and copper carbonate, combined with olive paste and honey, to treat skin infections. Today copper and its alloys such as brass and bronze are widely used in hospitals. Even some vineyards have been known to apply copper sulphate to vines to prevent fungal attacks.

Other pure metals such as silver require moisture in order to exhibit antibacterial properties, while bacteria easily multiply on more commonly used alloys such as steel and stainless steel.
